How to Verify Property Legality Before Buying – Avoid Scams and Legal Issues

New UPI Rules from 1st August 2025: Daily Limits Set on Balance Checks, Autopay, Refunds & More – What You Need to Know!

In today’s fast-moving digital world, Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has become one of the most widely used modes of payment in India. From buying groceries to investing in mutual funds, UPI has made our lives easier and transactions faster. But starting 1st August 2025, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is bringing some important new rules into effect.

These rules will directly impact how you use UPI—especially regarding balance checks, payment history, refunds, and automatic payments. So, whether you’re a daily user or a business relying on UPI, it’s crucial to understand what’s changing and how it might affect you.

Let’s explore these upcoming changes so you can stay ahead and manage your payments without disruptions.

✅ Why Are the UPI Rules Changing?

The primary reason for these new rules is to:

  • Reduce unnecessary server load.

  • Ensure faster, smoother and more secure UPI transactions.

  • Encourage users to use UPI responsibly, and avoid system abuse.

With the number of UPI transactions crossing billions every month, NPCI aims to ensure that essential payments do not get delayed due to heavy non-essential requests.

🔑 1. Daily Limit on UPI Balance Checks – Only 50 Times!

Until now, UPI users could check their account balance as many times as they wanted. But from 1st August 2025, this will change.

📌 What’s New?
You can now only check your account balance up to 50 times per day through UPI apps.

💡 Why this change?
Some users were checking balances repeatedly, creating unnecessary server pressure. Limiting this helps prioritize genuine transactions and ensures smoother operations for everyone.

✅ Tip for Users:
Avoid checking your balance repeatedly. Use it only when needed to stay within limits.

🔑 2. UPI Autopay Will Work Only at Fixed Hours

Autopay, or automatic deduction of funds (like SIPs, OTT subscriptions, insurance, etc.), will now be restricted to fixed time slots.

📌 What’s New?
Autopay transactions will now only be processed during two time slots:

  • Before 10:00 AM

  • From 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM

⚠️ What this means for you:
If your subscription or investment deduction falls outside these hours, it might fail or get delayed.

✅ Tip for Users:
Set your autopay mandates to match the allowed timeframes. Adjust SIPs or EMIs if needed.

🔑 3. Refund Requests (Chargebacks) Will Be Capped

Ever asked for a refund after a failed or wrong UPI payment? You could do that as many times as needed. But now, that too comes with a limit.

📌 What’s New?

  • You can raise only 10 chargeback requests per month.

  • For any one person or company, you can request a refund only 5 times per month.

💡 Why this change?
To prevent fraudulent or abusive refund behavior and streamline customer support systems.

✅ Tip for Users:
Be careful and double-check payment details before making transactions. Avoid unnecessary refund claims.

🔑 4. Payment Status Can Be Checked Only 3 Times a Day

Sometimes, payments take a few seconds to reflect, and users keep refreshing the status in a hurry. This creates avoidable pressure on the system.

📌 What’s New?
You can check the payment status only 3 times a day on a UPI app.

Also, you must wait at least 90 seconds between two checks.

✅ Tip for Users:
Once you make a payment, wait for a few moments. Avoid tapping “check status” repeatedly.

🔑 5. Transaction History Check – Now Only 25 Times a Day

Checking your bank transaction history is useful, but some users overdo it—resulting in system overload.

📌 What’s New?
You can view your transaction history only 25 times per day per UPI app.

⚠️ What happens if you exceed the limit?
You may not be able to check your bank details until the next day.

✅ Tip for Users:
Plan wisely. Don’t rely solely on UPI apps for your entire account history. Use your banking app for detailed statements if needed.

🧠 What Should You Do as a UPI User?

✔ Use UPI More Mindfully

Tell your friends, family, and colleagues about these changes. Many users may not know and get confused when faced with new limits.

✔ Avoid App Switching to Bypass Limits

Switching between multiple UPI apps (like Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm) just to bypass limits might work temporarily, but it may be flagged as unusual activity in the future.

These rules are designed to:

  • Improve transaction speed

  • Ensure that essential services get uninterrupted access

📣 Final Words: Stay Informed, Stay Smart!
